These six pages showcase the railway art of Leicester artist
David Weston. There are also other nostalgic entries such as railway
posters, engine development and railway company crests on postcards, the Leicester
City engine and nameplate, and the memories of a local Leicester engine driver.
Page 1A features the railway art of local Leicester
artist David Weston with paintings of The Master Cutler, The Golden Arrow,
The Iron Duke, Silver Link at York Station, Swindon Pride (King Edward I),
Great Western Splendour and LNER 4472. Page 1B is similar and
features more of the railway art of David Weston including Cheltenham (Southern Railways Schools Class);
Leicester Shed (the locomotive
shed in Leicester); Sunset Duchess (on the Settle and Carlisle Railway);
GWR Loco Witherslack Hall; Seven
Bridges (a Turner-style painting); Local at Thurnby (a scene
at Thurnby and Scraptoft station); Mist and Dereliction (the last of a signal box on the old Great Northern
Railway at Leicester).
Page 2 features transport scenes by David Weston as well as
other railway nostalgia such as holiday posters and the engine and
nameplate of the locomotive Leicester City. In addition, there are two transport scenes
of Leicester in the forties and fifties by David Weston. Page 3 features
railway history - the history and development of the British locomotive and
old railway company crests (all on old postcards). Page 4
features Tales of and Engine Driver, the nostalgic memories of the late Wally
who worked on the railways in Leicester and Leicestershire for many years.
